I established Epsilis Web Designers in Letchworth in 1999.
Our main focus initially was Content Management Software (CMS) and initially we developed our own CMS but later moved to open source solutions like DRUPAL – as this does not lock clients in to bespoke software only understood by one company.
After a few years I realised that there was something fundamentally wrong with the way most websites were being developed – Search Engines were being ignored. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) was considered to be a totally separate skill. This may have been fine in the early days when search engines were really stupid and had to be told (in hidden Meta Data tags) what a web page was about. But now search engines base rankings largely on the copy on web pages. So separating Website Design and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) has become obsurd. So I refocused my efforts on web sites designed to be search engine friendly and understanding Search Engine Optimisation.
Oddly much of the Web Design community are still treating Search Engine Optimisation as a separate black art and there are more and more SEO specialists than ever which just seems to add to the confusion.
Now together with my son Ben, we focus on Web Design and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) projects, generally for small companies or business start-ups, where we are able to do most or all of the work.
This blog uses the leading WordPress Blog software and is a good tool to allow the addition of a news or articles section on a web site that can be easily updated with little knowledge of web design and coding.
